{+} Drop Tags

Say it with Drop Tags. Drop Tags simulates an object being dropped attached to a string. The project file can be customized to make it your own. Four high quality tags are provided as Illustrator files. A tutorial is also included to walk you through the process of changing the following:

- String Thickness - Wrap Thickness - String Color - Tag Text

The tutorial also illustrates how to create your own tag from native AE Tools or import an image to attach to the string. In addition to tags or still images, you can attach any 2d element to the end of the string; such as video footage or text.

The comps are at 2K to give you the most flexibility in adding the Drop Tags to other compositions.

{+} Vowel Pop: Free Cinema 4D Project

Pop! Boom! Pow! Say it with Vowel Pop! Here is a short preview of what is possible with this free Cinema 4D project file. There is a file for each vowel (a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y). Just add your additional text to make a word and watch the dynamics take over. Don’t worry about not having the same font on your system, a polygon model of each letter in the alphabet is included to get you up and running fast.

The download file also has a short tutorial to help you navigate the projects in Cinema 4D. The project file requires R13 Studio or higher. Please drop me a line if you create something awesome with Vowel Pop. Enjoy!

{+} Unraveled: Animated

This animation was inspired by a still image made (you can see it here: http://tinyurl.com/ajb86tx). I had to make some changes to accommodate render time, but I am happy with the final result. I really like the end of the video when everything starts to unravel. I wanted a few more seconds of it unraveling, but render times ballooned to almost 2 hours per frame.

{+} Fresh 7: Your Adventure Starts Here
This project started out as a test render for the terrain mask in Cinema 4D and to see how far I could push my new system.  The terrain mask in Cinema 4d is a simple, but powerful option to control textures and Mograph clones.  Here is the image straight out of Cinema 4D that provided the base of the final project.

The rock texture and snow texture were blended together using the terrain shader as a mask.  The two are blended based on the elevation of the mountain object.  The textures can also be blended based on the angle of the terrain as well.  The boundary between the two textures were randomized using noise for a more organic look.
The terrain shader was also used to control the placement of the trees.  The shader limits the trees to the lower portion of the mountain model.  In addition to the placement of the trees, the size of the trees were also influenced to make the trees smaller at higher elevations.
The post work was done in After Effects.  Even though it is a still image, I still find myself working in After Effects often.  The low clouds were created with Trapcode Particular and color correction was completed with curves and Magic Bullet Colorista II.  I always love looking the before and after shots… color correction can totally change a project.
As far as pushing my system, this scene did a great job.  The trees alone produced 240 million polygons and it took 34 GB of memory to render the scene (the textures are large with alpha channels).  I wouldn’t normally render a scene like this without optimizing it, but since I wanted to see how far I could push my system I left the high polygon count.
I have always wanted to be able to produce realistic landscapes in Cinema 4D and the terrain mask is a step in the right direction.  This project has left me with some ideas to use the terrain mask in other, less obvious ways than landscapes.

{+} Unraveled
Created in Cinema 4D with post work done in Photoshop.  To create the image, I made a spline in Illustrator.  Imported the spine into Cinema 4D and made adjustments to make sure the spline didn’t overlap in 3d space.  Then, I animated a sphere along the spline using the align to spline tag.  I created radial cloned spheres and had them follow the single animated sphere using the inheritance effector.  Their paths were created using the tracer mograph object.  The splines created by the tracer object were made visible with a sweep nurb.  The paths of splines were influenced by random effectors placed along the spline with varying about of strength.  Look for an animated version soon…

{+} Cinema 4d Experiment: Waveforms

Here are a few experiments using the Cinema 4D Audio Waveform Rig found here: https://vimeo.com/50926153

The rig is great to create a wide range of waveforms. I recommend anyone that uses Cinema 4D to give it a try and shoot a thanks to the creator of the rig.
